Police: Three arrested in Waukegan gang-related shooting
Three known and self-proclaimed gang members have been arrested in connection with a shooting in Waukegan, authorities said.
Police said the shooting occurred Tuesday in the 900 block of Greenwood Avenue, which is considered a typically quiet neighborhood. Authorities said the victim was treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Two of the suspects seized by police are juveniles. The third suspect, Oscar Vega, 18, of the 100 block of S. Chapel Street, was charged with misdemeanor mob action and battery, according to police.
Police said the shooting was triggered by an argument between rival gang members and erupted into a physical altercation that spilled onto Greenwood Avenue. They said the three suspects involved in the melee were apprehended quickly and are known and admitted gang members.
Authorities said the Waukegan Police Department Gang Intelligence Unit, with the assistance of cooperative residents, developed information to quickly apprehend the three suspects.
