St. Charles to host U.S. Open Brass Band Championships Nov. 3

Brass Bands International has announced the 10th anniversary of the U.S. Open Brass Band Championships, hosted by the Prairie Brass Band of Arlington Heights, in partnership with brass instrument manufacturer Buffet Group. This year’s competitors, consisting of eight of the most entertaining bands in the U.S., will take the stage at the Norris Cultural Arts Center in St. Charles Saturday Nov. 3. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. and the contest will conclude at 4 p.m. Tickets can be bought online at usopenbrass.org or purchased at the door for $25.

These bands have accepted this year’s invitation to compete: Brass Band of Central Florida of Orlando, Fla.; Capital City Brass Band of Lansing, Mich.; Chicago Brass Band of Chicago; Dublin Silver Band of Columbus, Ohio; Eastern Iowa Brass Band of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Fountain City Brass Band of Kansas City, Mo.; Illinois Brass Band of Arlington Heights; and Prairie Brass Band of Arlington Heights.

The bands will be competing for trophies and cash prizes in categories such as: Grand Champion, Second Place, Most Entertaining Band, Best Performance of a March, Best New Composition or Arrangement for Brass Band, Most Outstanding Percussion Section and Best Featured Soloist. The award for the Best Cornet Player of the day will be awarded by Buffet Crampon.
