District 214 showcases its finest soloists

The annual District 214 Honors Orchestra Concerto/Aria Competition Finals Recital, featuring exceptionally talented soloists, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, in the theater at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights.

Six finalists, representing three of the district’s high schools, will compete for the opportunity to perform as a featured soloist with the Honors Orchestra at the school district’s Honors Music Festival on March 6, 2013.

At the start of the year, District 214’s top music students submitted a recording a solo work, and the top competitors were ultimately selected to participate in the upcoming recital competition.

“We are excited to have six exceptional students named as finalists this year,” said Honors Orchestra Director Patrick O’Connor. “The talent each student presented in their entry recording is a tribute to years of hard work and dedication, the support they receive at home, and the quality of our district’s music programs.” A panel of distinguished professional musicians will choose the winner at the final recital.

This year’s finalists are Buffalo Grove High School juniors Laleh Omaraie (piano) and Peter Kotecki (clarinet); John Hersey High School seniors Kyle Chung (violin), Roya Zandi (violin) and junior Serena Voltz (tuba); and Prospect High School senior Caitlin Claytor (voice).

The Nov. 19 soloist competition and the March honors concert are both free. The community is welcome to attend both performances. For details contact Patrick O’Connor at patrick.oconnor@d214.org.
