Randhurst 50th anniversary fall festival Saturday

Randhurst, at the corner of Rand and Elmhurst roads, is celebrating five fabulous decades rooted in the Mount Prospect community with a commemorative ceremony and 50th Anniversary Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 27, featuring Halloween-themed fun for the whole family.

At 1 p.m., Randhurst Village will officially commemorate the shopping area’s 50th Anniversary with a dedication ceremony with official guest, Mount Prospect Mayor Irvana K. Wilks. The event will reflect on the history of Randhurst when it first opened in the 1962, while celebrating its exciting redevelopment as the modern-day Randhurst Village.

Then the family festivities kickoff.

Enjoy Halloween-themed sand sculptures custom created on-site in the images of ghoulish themes featured throughout the mall. The Great Pumpkin Gallery will showcase creative “pumpkin art” from local students from Prospect, Wheeling, John Hersey and Saint Viator high schools.

Stilt walkers costumed as Frankenstein and his bride will roam the sidewalks with special surprises. Kids and grown-ups alike can get their faces painted in the Halloween spirit.

Enjoy no tricks, just treats, as a candy artist will create delicious concoctions out of sugar right before your eyes. The Rad Hatter, Tony Melendez, has been delighting crowds with his unique form of interactive art, and he’ll teach kids and parents how to create their own over-the- top, spectacularly designed keepsake hats. Also stop by the pumpkin decorating stations and take home your own pumpkin.

Get your fair share of Hoots and H’owls and pose for photos with majestic owls from the Stillman Nature Center in South Barrington.

Music will rock throughout the day including Radio Disney AM 1300, a DJ spinning famous tunes from the 1960s, as well as live music by the Committee Band, and the '80s cover band Hi Infidelity from 6-9 p.m.

The entire Mount Prospect community will enjoy the finale — a dazzling fireworks display at 9 p.m.

Visitors may test their 1960s knowledge and Randhurst history with the Wheel of Wisdom, a Hollywood-style game show with a chance to win fabulous prizes from Randhurst Village tenants.

Enjoy specials and deals at Randhurst Village’s lineup of premier restaurants, entertainment, retail shops and salon services. The newly redeveloped shopping area includes venues such as AMC Theatres, Tony Sacco’s Coal Oven Pizza, Billy Goat Tavern and Grill, BlackFinn American Grille, Panera Bread, Subway and Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt.
