MTV faves
The Tubes, the outrageous rock band that scored hits such as "White Punks on Dope," "Talk to Ya Later" and "She's a Beauty" in the 1970s and 1980s, will make a stop in the suburbs this weekend. The Tubes emerged out of California in the mid-1970s with a driving pop sound and a taste for flamboyant, theatrical live shows. In the 1980s, the band became MTV favorites with the "She's a Beauty" single, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts. The Tubes current lineup features four original members, and the band is at work on new material.

Old-school punk
Who says you can't be a punk after age 30? The punk-rock veterans in OFF! certainly don't. The band is led by Keith Morris, who in the 1970s and 1980s was the frontman for legendary punk pioneers Black Flag and the Circle Jerks. Middle age hasn't mellowed the fiery Morris one bit; the music he makes with OFF! is every bit as raucous and confrontational as the stuff he did back in the day. He's joined in the band by Dimitri Coats, Steven McDonald and Mario Rubalcaba. The band's self-titled debut full-length record came out earlier this year. If you haven't seen Morris onstage before, prepare to be blown away.
9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Bottom Lounge, 1375 W. Lake St., Chicago. The Spits and Double Negative are also on the bill. $15. Go to
