I recently saw an ad on television saying that Bob Dold was a Tea Party candidate and believe your readers should know the truth. What qualifies me to say thatís a lie? I was an active Tea Party member when Bob Dold first ran for office in the 10th District, my district at the time. I was the person who tried to get the Tea Party to endorse Bob Dold, and they wouldnít. The members were split for and against him. Many called him a RINO, and there were even whispers of throwing him under the bus and supporting the other side. Some felt that if he got into office he would stay in office and they thought they would have a better chance of getting a real conservative in on the next election, which would then be against Democrat Dan Seals.
Needless to say, when I saw the commercial I almost choked on my food because nothing could be further from the truth. Anyone who thinks itís true doesnít know Bob Dold and certainly doesnít know the Tea Party. I canít remember the sound byte they so obviously spliced out of an interview Bob Dold had I think with Fox, but you can hear that it was mid-sentence and was laughable. Just another example of schoolyard politics.
