Warren rolls to shutout win

Warren’s Daniel Szczepanek scored the first of his pair of goals in the fifth minute, assisted by Sean Kirwan, and his team never looked back against Grant.

The Blue Devils scored two more goals in the first half and shut out the Bulldogs 7-0 in the teams’ Class 3A regional semifinal in Gurnee on Tuesday.

Szczepanek scored his second goal 14 minutes later, assisted by Nick Wegrznowicz. Auner Solis also had 2 goals with assists by Kirwan and Tony Severini, who also scored. Mikey Pliskat and Lucas Gieb, assisted by Ben Skelton, scored the final two goals for the Blue Devils.

RJ Hill and Nick Hathuc maintained the shutout for Warren, who will next play Round Lake in Saturday’s regional final at noon. Round Lake defeated Zion-Benton 3-1.

Libertyville 4, Elk Grove 1: Austin Bitta scored 2 goals for the Wildcats in the Class 3A regional semifinal at Elk Grove.

Ryan McKenzie and Lloyd Chatfield also scored, and Tomide Owolabi had an assist for Libertyville (15-2-1). Alec Schory had 10 saves for the Wildcats. Libertyville will next play Highland Park, which defeated Carmel 3-0 in the other semifinal.

Th Elk Grove regional final will be played at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Lakes 3, Antioch 1: Trevor Ray, Caleb Arnwine and Brian Werchek scored for the Eagles in their own Class 2A regional semifinal.

Lucas Istvanek recorded 2 assists, and Werchek had one, as well, for Lakes (14-4-4). Kevin Ray grabbed 8 saves for the Eagles, who will play Johnsburg in Saturday’s 11 a.m. regional final. Johnsburg defeated Richmond-Burton 4-0.
