Arlington chamber director updates members while in China

Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jon Ridler is updating local residents and businesses from the other side of the world this week.

Ridler is touring China this week along with a group of other American chamber leaders, according to his office. The trip could be made available later to individual chamber members.

To keep in touch with residents and businesses in Arlington Heights, the chamber has been posting updates about Ridler’s trip via Facebook. But since the social networking site is blocked in China, he’s first had to send his messages by email.

“Our first day in Beijing was very busy. After a 14 hour flight, we had a few hours sleep at the very nice hotel and off to the races we went,” Ridler wrote Friday.

He described visiting several tourist sites including the Great Wall of China. “Each one amazing but the Great Wall was both challenging to climb, very steep and difficult at the entry point we were at, and truly a great wonder of the world.”
