The annual ceremony, also known as Armistice Day, Veterans' Day is a day to remember and honor more than 24 million military soldiers in the United States. The VFW Post 5815 and the Village of Lombard are partnering together to plan the ceremony for this year. Lombard's Acting Village President Peter Breen will open the ceremony, and Deacon Frank Annerino of Sacred Heart Church will give the invocation. Philip Maughan, Commander, District 19 of the VFW, will give the keynote address. Maughan will speak about the tradition of serving our country in the military.
Besides celebrating and honoring veterans who have and are continuing to serve the country, Committee Chair VFW 5815 Post Commander, George Miller will take a moment of recognition during the ceremony to remember the respected veterans of the post who have recently passed away.
In an effort to remember the outstanding courage and commitment to freedom made by our veterans, Breen invites all residents, especially local scout troops and families, to join with him and the VFW to say "thank you" to our veterans who have given and continue to give so much for the freedom that we enjoy each day in our great country. Public parking is available in the municipal lot behind FairyTales in downtown Lombard or any commuter lot as well as nearby street parking. For residents who are unable to attend the ceremony, Breen encourages them to stop whatever they are doing at 11 a.m. on Veterans' Day to remember veterans in a special way at that time.
Scout troops of all kinds are invited to attend. Anyone interested in participating, or with questions regarding the event, please contact Kate Burke, Communications Specialist, at (630) 620-3083.
