Now that the elections are upon us, we have been bombarded by campaign ads, materials and the candidates themselves. After reviewing many of the candidates’ materials and talking to several candidates, I am appalled at the manner in which some of the candidates are attempting to mislead us.
I have reviewed campaign materials and talked to Al Murphy (who is running for DuPage Forest Preserve District 6) and Jim Zay (who is running for DuPage County Board District 6). Up front, they tell me they are running as Republicans. They both clearly are honest as to the party they are representing, as well as stating their goals and positions. In addition, their literature contains their party’s emblem.
On the other hand, I have reviewed materials from Dirk Enger (who is running for DuPage County Board District 6) and Shannon Burns (who is running for DuPage Forest Preserve District 6) and nowhere in their materials do they state they are running as Democrats. In fact, if you talk to these people, it is like pulling teeth to get them to admit they are running as Democrats. Some of the other candidates, who are pursuing this type of campaign, even state they are running as “Independents” but on the Democratic ballot.
This is an intentional attempt to mislead the voters as to who they really are and these actions are unconscionable and cannot be tolerated. If you are not proud of the party you represent, don’t run and get out of the race.
We, the voters, have had enough of the political “slight of hand” and politicians who are not honest in their positions and who they really are. We deserve honest politicians with integrity. We hope the politicians we elect have these qualities.
