Hersey meets Rolling Meadows' challenge

The Hersey girls volleyball team completed its fifth straight undefeated season in the Mid-Suburban East by posting a 25-18, 29-27 victory over Rolling Meadows at the Ken Carter Gymnasium in Arlington Heights on Tuesday night.

The Huskies (22-3, 10-0) registered their 51st straight win in the East.

Rolling Meadows (14-13, 5-5) made the Huskies work right to the end.

Hersey held off set point when freshman Liz Fuerst put down a kill. Sophomore Courtney Stedman collected a big dig which helped Hersey keep momentum during the final points of the match.

Senior setter Annie Fesl ended the contest when she put down a second-attack to the deep corner.

"Rolling Meadows showed fight, they played some great volleyball in Set 2," said Hersey coach Nancy Lill, whose team was led on attack by Erica Hill (7 kills), Fesl (7), Anna Mullen-Muhr (6), Stedman (4),Gabriella Olhava (3) and Fuerst (3). "Theyshowed an unwillingness to go down. The fought to the finish and challenged us. They might make some noise in postseason if they keep playing like that."

Lill was honored after the match by Hersey girls AD Patty Kennedy, who presented the veteran coach with a silver jewelry box and cake for her 800th win last week at Buffalo Grove.

Taylor Schill (3 aces) led Hersey with 19 digs while Fuerst had 3 blocks.

Rolling Meadows was led on attack by Jenny Vliet (4 kills), Morgan Keller (4) and Rachel Mickey (3). Sami Kay handed out 9 assists for the Mustangs while Vliet had 5.

Barrington d. Conant: Julia Thompson (14 kills), Lauren Shechtman (5) and Selina Jaramillo (3) led the attack for host Barrington (14-9, 5-5) in a 25-23, 25-23 MSL West triumph.

Christi Seibt collected 20 assists and 9 digs while Thompson had 8 digs and Emily Casaletto 7.

Jenn Donnell (8 kills), DeeDee Durr (5), Katie Lomas (2) and Daniele Sortino (2) led the attack for Conant (9-15, 2-6) while Elisa Ambrose had 6 assists and Suzi Loznjakovic 8. Teammate Taylor Levitt collected 10 digs.

Schaumburg d. Hoffman Estates: The host Saxons (18-10) received 7 kills and 8 digs from Kely Koutnik in a 25-17, 25-19 victory to finish 7-3 and tied for second with Fremd in the MSL West.

Kiana Lewis added 5 kills for Schaumburg while Jada Blackwell (12 assists) and Marisa Christy (7) handled the setting duties. Christy also served 4 aces.

Hoffman was led by Becca Stoczynski (5 kills) and Miranda Lewis (4) while Renee Clemment had 21 assists.

Prospect d Wheeling: VisiitingProspect finished at 4-6 in the MSL East with 25-21, 25-22 victory.

Sydney Keith led Wheeling (7-17, 1-9) with 4 kills.

Buffalo Grove d. Elk Grove: Alaina Murphy (17 kills), Alicia Kantor (10), Bailey North (5) and Alyssa Mills (5) led the host Bison (14-15, 6-4) in a 23-25, 25-18, 25-19 MSL East victory.

Celine Murphy was 20-21 serving with 5 aces while Katie Schumacher was 16-16 with 3 aces. Marie Georgoulis set the offense with 39 assists and Lea Masciopinto had 25 digs.

Diamond Boyd (14 kills, 14 digs, 3 blocks) and Becca Siwicki (4) led the attack for Elk Grove (4-6) while Kelsey Conley had 20 digs and Kerry Souder 3 aces.

Christine Juhas (15 assists) and Souder (6) directed the Grens' attack.

Nazareth d. St. Viator: Host Nazareth won the ESCC match 23-25, 20-25 as Megan Mueller (9 kills) and Mary Cleary (7) led St. Viator on attack while teammates Sara Lopez had 14 digs and Molly Ziegler 14 assists.

Lake Forest d. Christian Liberty: Lake Forest Academy posted a 25-23, 25-21 victory as Rachel Freeman (6 kills) and Beth Cunningham (4) paced the host Chargers.
