Nonprofits enjoy ‘Marvelous Wonderettes’ at Metropolis

On Wednesday, Sept. 19, local nonprofit organizations gathered for the first BMO Harris Bank Night at Metropolis. Audience members came from Clearbrook, Little City, NWSRA, Palatine Opportunity Center, WINGS, Countryside Association, and other organizations to enjoy the final dress rehearsal of “The Marvelous Wonderettes.”

BMO Harris Bank is the title sponsor of this opening production of Metropolis Performing Arts Centre’s 2012-13 Season. Over 200 people attended BMO Harris Bank Night at Metropolis.

Though Metropolis sponsors traditionally invite clients and employees to a final dress rehearsal, BMO Harris reached out to its many nonprofit partners in Arlington Heights and Palatine. Some of these agencies also work in partnership with Metropolis through its arts education programs and special outreach for those with disabilities.

“One of the many reasons for our support of Metropolis is admiration for its arts education programming,” said Jack Lloyd, market president at BMO Harris. “Not only does Metropolis bring great theater to the Northwest Suburbs, but it brings arts experiences to people of all ages and backgrounds. And its programming for people with disabilities is first-rate.”

“In addition to hearing the fantastic live music in the show,” said Carl M. LaMell, executive director of Clearbrook, “our residents really value the chance to be part of the greater community.”

Great music is key to “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” a musical comedy that uses timeless songs from the ’50s and ’60s to tell a story of homage to the high school “Songleader Squads” of the 1950s. Audience members of all ages responded to the classic pop hits. “The Marvelous Wonderettes” runs through Nov. 4. Tickets range from $28-$44 and can be purchased at MetropolisArts.com or by calling the Metropolis Box Office at (847) 577-2121.

“We cannot thank BMO Harris Bank enough for its tremendous support,” Metropolis executive director Charlie Beck added. “We truly cannot deliver entertainment and arts education without the support of organizations such as BMO Harris Bank.”

Metropolis’ Subscription Series is sponsored by AAA. Metropolis thanks its media partners Daily Herald and Pioneer Press. Metropolis is partially supported by a grant from Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.

Metropolis is located in the heart of Chicago’s Northwest suburbs in downtown Arlington Heights at the intersection of Campbell Street and Vail Avenue (111 W. Campbell Street). Street parking is available. Free parking is available in the public garage behind the theater.
