Glen Crest Builders Club Directs Operation Support Our Troops Collection

Glen Crest Middle School Builders Club is a relatively new extra curricular activity at the middle school, but it has become one of the largest and most popular after school clubs.

Sponsored by the Glen Ellyn Kiwanis Club and Glen Crest 6th grade social studies teacher, Craig Hofmann, the Builders membership has reached more than sixty students.

Their purpose is to meet after school and plan projects they can coordinate, lead, participate in, and improve by giving service. Since the beginning of school in September, the Builders have volunteered at the DuPage Convalescent Center’s Fall Festival, coordinated the second annual Operation Support Our Troops that involved every homeroom in the middle school, stuffed stockings for Troop presents at The Christmas House in Lisle, and on October 6 they worked for Nature Work Day at the Danada Forest Preserve.

Operation Support Our Troops Drive began September 17 and ended on Sept. 28 at Glen Crest. The homerooms collected everything on the lists that were distributed by the Builders. The entire school was motivated to participate because of the anniversary of 9/11 and the anniversary of the death of a Glen Crest former student, Kevin Oratowski who fought in Afghanistan. All the items collected will be sure to be received by the troops in time for the holidays. For more information about the Builders Club call the Glen Crest office at 630-469-5220.
