Lombard committee awards 'Senior of the Year' to Bill Mueller posthumously

LOMBARD, Illinois—The Village of Lombard's Community Relations Committee presented the 2012 “Senior of the Year” award to Bill Mueller posthumously at last week's Senior Fair.

Eileen Mueller accepted the award on behalf of her late husband. The following is an excerpt from the letter nominating Bill Mueller as the 2012 “Senior of the Year:”

“Words cannot express the admiration every senior in Lombard had for this man. His caring and concern for all Seniors of Lombard was evident with his endless visits to Beacon Hill, Lexington and his help in arranging Senior Fairs each year. He would make sure all seniors received the knowledge of Village programs available to them and would make their lives easier and affordable in these hard times.

“Bill would take the time to volunteer in helping deliver 'Meals on Wheels' to those who were homebound at times even when he himself may have been feeling under the weather. His heart was always in the right place and he would make each senior feel that they still mattered. He listened to all of their stories and appreciated learning from their wisdom.”

Bill Mueller was recognized for all his efforts during his lifelong career of service to the community.
