Tuesday last day to register to vote

Tuesday is the last day to register to vote in time for the November general election.

Cook County Clerk David Orr says his office is “seeing a surge in registrations,” and he hopes it will continue. Orr says his downtown Chicago office and five suburban offices will stay open until 8 p.m. on Tuesday for those who want to register.

Orr says that as of last week the total number of registered voters in Cook County was 1.3 million. That compares with about 1.4 million at this time before the 2008 presidential election.

Orr says his office has processed about 45,000 registrations since the beginning of September.
