Police seek information in Northwestern student's death

EVANSTON — Police are fanning across Evanston seeking information in the death of a Northwestern University student whose body was found in a harbor near the school's suburban Chicago campus.

Harsha Maddula of New Hyde Park, N.Y. was last seen leaving a party where authorities say he was observed drinking alcohol. He left shortly after midnight Sept. 22, and his body was recovered Sept. 27 in Wilmette Harbor, which is located 1 1/2 miles from the party site.

Authorities are trying to determine Maddula's actions between shortly before he left the party and the last signal from his cellphone about 2 1/2 hours later.

Evanston Police Commander Jay Parrott says investigators hope someone may have seen the 18-year-old engineering student or thought they may have seen him and will help their investigation.
