Both a resident of a Lake Barrington senior living facility whose apartment started on fire Thursday night and her caregiver were treated and released from Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital after escaping the burning room together.

Barrington firefighters were called to Lake Barrington Woods at 22320 Classic Court in Lake Barrington at 9:09 p.m. Thursday. By the time they arrived five minutes later, they'd learned that one particular apartment was on fire.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 9:31 p.m., though crews continued to work salvaging property and extinguishing hidden areas of fire until 11:33 p.m.

Lake Barrington Woods, which has full smoke detection and automatic sprinkler activation throughout, was returned to management's control as firefighters left the scene. The rest of the building was fully operational Friday, management said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, firefighters said.

Seven other departments assisted with the fire and there were no firefighter injuries.
