Chemist in police lab flap arrested

BOSTON — The Massachusetts attorney general says authorities have no idea why a lab chemist would have faked test results except that she wanted to be seen as a good worker.

Thirty-four-year-old Annie Dookhan was arrested Friday. Attorney General Martha Coakley said at a news conference that the investigation is continuing and she could face more charges.

Dookhan is charged with two felony counts of obstruction of justice and a misdemeanor, lying about her resume.

Coakley says Dookhan’s actions “totally turned the system on its head.”

State police say Dookhan tested more than 60,000 drug samples involving 34,000 defendants during her nine years at the lab.

Coakley said there is no indication of criminal activity by anyone else.
