The Lake County sheriff's office will participate in the National Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Prescription Drug Take Back event on Saturday, Sept. 29. The events are at the Beach Park Village Hall, 11270 W. Wadsworth Road, Beach Park, and at the Deer Park Village Hall, 23680 W. Cuba Road, Deer Park. Both locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is an opportunity for residents to safely dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs. Accepted items include: expired solid prescription drugs; unwanted or unused prescription drugs; over-the-counter drugs in pill form; controlled and noncontrolled substances. Items that will not be accepted: liquid products; intravenous solutions; injectable drugs; and syringes. The service is free and anonymous. "We have had a tremendous response to this event in the past, collecting over 200 pounds of drugs in April," Sheriff Mark Curran said.
