CCU hosts free identity theft workshop Oct. 11

Consumers Credit Union is hosting a free “Protecting Yourself From Identity Theft” seminar on Thursday, Oct. 11.

This workshop will provide helpful insight into the world of identity theft, why it happens and how to protect your personal information.

Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. and the program begins at 6 p.m. at Keylime Cove Resort, 1700 Nations Drive, Gurnee. RSVP to Cedric Ivy at CedricI@myconsumers.org or (847) 265-5541.

“Nothing is more important to each of us then the preservation of our identity and personal information,” noted Sean M. Rathjen, CCU president. “In a day and age where a person’s reputation can be ruined by a click of a mouse, it’s imperative that we equip ourselves with the know-how to ensure these types of attacks are prevented before they happen.”

The no-cost workshop is lead by Buck Austin of BALANCE Financial Fitness. He’ll provide attendees answers to questions about how an identity can be stolen, what criminals do with your information once they have it, and tips for preventing identity theft.

Just as important, the workshop will also discuss methods on how to recover from theft of your identity.

“Identity Theft” is presented by Consumers Credit Union and sponsored by Consumers Cooperative Association, the credit union’s sponsor. CCU members and the public at large are invited to attend this no-cost workshop.
