Chicago to offer free Wi-Fi in parks, public areas
Free wireless Internet is available in downtown Chicago’s Millennium Park, a service the city says will eventually be offered in all of its parks and open spaces.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced the Chicago Broadband Challenge on Monday. As part of the effort the city will expand high-speed Internet access in underserved and disadvantaged neighborhoods. The city has identified 15 key commercial and industrial areas where it will first establish open, giga-bit speed networks.
Emanuel says the effort will make Chicago “one of the most connected cities in the world.” The public, including companies and nonprofit groups, are invited to offer ideas and insight for the program.
