Sharyn Powell, a third-grade teacher at Half Day School in Lincolnshire, was honored with a Heroes in the Classroom Award on Sept. 11. The award was presented by Gallagher Benefit Services and the Chicago Bears as part of a community award program recognizing Chicago-area teachers for their outstanding leadership and instructional skills. Powell received a certificate, two tickets to Sunday's Bears game against the Rams and a VIP sideline experience, $250 in Office Max supplies, and a $1,000 donation to the school.
