Man with gun robs Elgin store, ties up employees

A man brandishing a handgun tied up two employees of a T-Mobile store before stealing cellphones and money on Thursday, Elgin police said Friday.

The armed robbery occurred about 1 p.m. at the store, 273 S. Randall Road. The suspect struck one of the employees with the gun and ordered both employees to the back of the store where they were tied together, according to a news release from the Elgin Police Department.

After the man left the store with more than 100 cellphones and an undisclosed amount of money, the employees were able to untie themselves and call 911, police said.

Neither employee was injured.

The robber is described as a black man, about 6 feet tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing a white construction hat, a dark-colored Carhartt-style jacket, and sunglasses.

Anyone with information is asked to call Elgin police at (847) 289-2600.
