Dist. 214 hosts planning night for special needs students

DIRECTIONS, District 214’s postsecondary planning night for students with special needs, will be held 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights.

This evening is dedicated to assisting families as they begin their investigation into the many postsecondary opportunities available to their son/daughter with special needs.

Many four-year colleges, universities and postsecondary institutions will be available to distribute literature and discuss their programs in detail. Parents, guardians and students are encouraged to attend to learn more about what these institutions have to offer them following graduation from high school.

In addition to meeting with representatives, there will be four breakout sessions available for families to attend: Career Training; 4-year Colleges/Universities; Life Skills Training; and Community College Options. The four breakout sessions will run simultaneously throughout the evening.

Attendees will receive a compiled directory which categorizes colleges/universities offering various levels of support for students with disabilities.
