As the Forest Preserve Commissioner for District 2, I will work to protect our forest preserves and tax dollars. To protect our tax dollars I will work to reduce the annual salary for the Part-Time Commissioners from more than $53,000 to $25,000. With less money spent on salaries we can acquire more land and/or run additional programs on the acreage we currently control.

Questions & Answers

Do you support continuing the effort to acquire County Lakes Golf Club in Naperville? Why or why not?

I am uncertain of whether we should continue to have a public government agency competing with private businesses running golf courses. The public golf courses are subsidized with taxes. Per Crain's Chicago this is not a top quality golf course. I have yet to see any good reasons as to why the County Lakes Club is a value for inclusion in the acreage protected by our forest preserve district.

Should the district be in the golf course business? If so, please explain the benefit. If not, please detail why. Should the district consider selling any of its holdings?

Comment on the forest preserve's current land acquisition policy: Too aggressive? Too passive? Just right?

In the many meetings I have attended it appears that the DuPage County Forest Preserve District's current land acquisition policy is more reactive than proactive. I would like them to be more proactive and I would like to see a specific survey of all open space left in DuPage County with a definition of the specific landscape qualities for each parcel.
