Burlington Central's girls volleyball team fought off match point four times Tuesday night before finally losing a tough marathon match to Richmond-Burton on the road in a battle for first place in the Big Northern East, 26-28, 25-19, 25-23.

"We played great team defense," said BC coach Marv Leavitt, whose team had 72 digs in the match. "That led a valiant effort in an epic battle on the road. We kept fighting back in the third set, trailing at one point 19-10."

Senior Lexie Bouza had 15 kills and 14 digs for Central (11-6, 3-1), while Lauren Wiltsie added 7 kills and 3 aces and Allie O'Reilly had 22 digs and 3 aces. Karrington Bell (9 digs, 2 aces, Jenna Schudel (10 kills) and Jess Emrich (36 assists, 14 digs) also contributed for BC.

Prairie Ridge d. Jacobs: In another battle for first place, this one in the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division, the Golden Eagles fell 26-28, 25-21, 25-17. Alyssa Ehrhardt had 17 kills and 9 digs for Jacobs (13-4, 3-1), while Taylor Lauder (18 assists), Maris Smith (8 kills, 9 digs), Mackie Traub (13 assists, 3 digs), Jenna Bilgrien (3 kills) and Bridget Wallenberger (4 kills) also contributed.

CL South d. Dundee-Crown: Avan Nero had 10 kills and Lindsey Murphy added 21 assists and 3 aces to lead the Gators to a 25-11, 25-12 win in FVC Valley play. Kylie Portera added 5 kills for Crystal Lake South (12-5, 4-1). Steph Magsamen had 3 kills and 5 digs to lead Dundee-Crown (5-7, 0-4).

South Elgin d. Metea Valley: Ashley Oandasan and Corbin Kehe had 5 digs each to lead South Elgin to an easy 25-13, 25-15 Upstate Eight Valley win. Amanda Nadler had 3 kills for the Storm (7-4-3, 1-1).

Cary-Grove d. Huntley: Mallory Wilczynski had 4 kills, 6 blocks and 4 aces as the Trojans (8-7, 2-2) won 25-22, 27-25 in FVC Valley action. Rachel Kisten had 9 kills and Elish Regan 7 digs for Huntley. Rachel Shores added 10 digs and Kelsey DeWulf had 12 digs for the Red Raiders.

Bartlett d. East Aurora: Katie Hrbacek had 7 kills and Rachel Hartford added 5 to lead Bartlett to a 25-15, 25-20 UEC Valley win. Lexi Cazzato had 10 assists and Danielle Santucci added 9 for the Hawks (4-14, 1-2).

Westminster Christian d. Mooseheart: Emma Kovachevich had 6 aces, 10 assists and 6 digs and Cara Tyrell added 7 kills and 4 digs to lead Westminster to a 26-24, 25-19 Northeast Athletic Conference win. Claire Speweik added 5 kills and Savannah Dutcher had 7 kills and 2 blocks for the Warriors (13-4, 3-1).

Elgin Academy d. St. Benedict: Bridget Keslinke had 8 digs, 7 kills and 9 aces and Claire Fugiel added 9 digs, 10 kills and 7 aces to lead the Hilltoppers to a 25-12, 18-25, 25-19 nonconference win. Trenndy Kleczewski added 19 assists, 4 kills and an ace for Elgin Academy (6-8).
