Kids of all ages thrill to 17 different rides in the carnival at Fall Fest 2012, September 14-16 at Lake Park. The festival runs from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lake Park in Des Plaines.

Mike Lake, VFW Post 2992, raises the flag to kick off Fall Fest 2012 in Des Plaines. The flag was raised Friday evening for the "Pledge of Allegiance" and then lowered to half-mast in honor of Libyan Ambassador Christopher Stevens and his staff. Stevens was killed in an attack Sept. 11.

The band Hi-Fi Superstar kicks off the free entertainment for Fall Fest 2012 in Des Plaines. The cover band had the crowd on its feet dancing to rock favorites from the '80s to today. The festival continues through Sunday.
