Island Lakefest planned for Saturday

Village of Island Lake submission

Island Lake will host the annual Island Lakefest Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Water Tower Park, Route 176 near Newport Court, and 5 to 9 p.m. at Eastway Park, Eastway Drive on the east side of the lake.

"Island LakeFest is a wonderful time for the community to get together and celebrate the close of summer," Trustee Shannon Fox said. "We're working to build the event each year and have a number of fantastic additions in 2012."

At Water Tower Park, visitors can see a variety of vehicles at a touch-a-truck event. A Flight for Life emergency helicopter will land at 11:30 a.m.

Additionally, the park will feature a classic car show and contest. People who want to show off their cars can start lining up at 9 a.m. Registration requires a $10 donation to the local food pantry. Trophies will be awarded.

A pig roast, dunk tank and other activities are planned. Hot dogs will be available, too.

Parking will be at Cotton Creek School, 545 Newport Court.

The evening schedule at Eastway Park includes food, music and fireworks at dusk.
