Men charged with robbing two Lake County banks

By Lee Filas Paul Biasco

Two suspects were arrested in connection to a pair of bank robberies in Lake County on Monday, according to authorities.

Nicholas Kastner, 19, and Jamaun Johnson, 22, were charged by federal officials with bank robbery after being accused of robbing TCF Banks inside Jewel-Oscos in Grayslake and Round Lake Beach on Monday, FBI Special Agent Julia Meredith said.

The two robbed the bank branches inside the stores at 885 E. Belvidere Road in Grayslake and 900 E. Rollins Road in Round Lake, according to the FBI.

Both suspects wore baseball caps and had their hoods on while covering their faces during the robbery.

Authorities said neither had a weapon and no one was injured.

Local law enforcement officers were able to get obtain good descriptions of the suspects and their getaway vehicle, and a forest preserve deputy spotted the vehicle shortly after the second robbery, Meredith said.

The deputy apprehended both suspects in their vehicle, she said.

Meredith said she did not know the times of the bank robberies, or the hometowns of Kastner and Johnson.

Both suspects are in custody and were charged in front of a federal judge at noon, Meredith said.
