Fremd prevails at Lake Zurich

Fremd’s girls volleyball team improved to 9-2 with a 25-23, 28-26 at Lake Zurich on Monday night. Sophomore Lane Hindenburg (8 kills), Nicole Obos (6) and Claire Brady (5) led the attack for coach Curt Pinley’s Vikings in the nonconference match.

Senior libero Nina Scott was 10-of-10 serving with 1 ace, 15-of-16 serve receiving and had 6 digs for the Vikings, who are the only undefeated team (3-0) in the Mid-Suburban West.

Fremd setter Marilyn Lortz was 57-of-57 with 17 assists.

Maine West d. Maine East: Brittany Collins and Maddie Plantz each had 3 kills as Maine West (3-6, 1-0) won its CSL North opener 25-15, 25-12.

Janna Lopez (6 assists) and Kassidy Riportella (5) set the offense.

“We looked like a different team,” said West coach Randy Tiller. “Our passing was much better than last Thursday (vs Maine South). We were able to keep the setters in the frontcourt and run the offense. “Our serving was stronger. And our aggressiveness showed much confidence. We’ll continue pushing those aspects in the practice gym.”
