Safety conference at Sears Centre

The Illinois State Board of Education, the Archdiocese of Chicago Office of Catholic Schools, RETA Security, the Illinois Terrorism Task Force, East Aurora School District 131 and Proviso Area for Exceptional Children are hosting an event to heighten the safety awareness of school administrators, police and firefighters and anyone else in the community in charge of safety.

The event will run from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, at the Sears Centre Arena, 5333 Prairie Stone Parkway in Hoffman Estates.

Experts in the field of school safety and crisis prevention will be on hand to discuss ways to enhance the safety and security of school facilities on a day-to-day basis and for the long term.

Experts include representatives from local police departments, Homeland Security, the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, and RETA Security Inc.

Topics that will be covered range from Internet safety and drug abuse to gangs and staying safe during a tornado.

The event is free. Breakfast and lunch will be served.
