Volunteers needed for Little City Tag Days

Make a difference in the lives of hundreds of children and adults with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities by volunteering for Little City Foundation’s 38th annual Smiles Tag Days.

Originally organized by the parents and families of Little City residents and program participants, Smiles Tag Days is an annual event where volunteers canvass the streets to raise funds and promote awareness for Little City.

For more than 50 years, Little City has been providing innovative and personalized programs and services to children and adults with disabilities at its 56-acre campus in Palatine and the Chicago offices that serve as the agency’s headquarters for foster care, adoption and other in-home support services.

“Smiles Tag Days gives Little City the opportunity to build new relationships with volunteers, donors and corporations, while strengthening the partnerships we already have,” said Little City Executive Director Shawn E. Jeffers. “We are extremely grateful to all the individuals who help us during this event — they are the ones who make it successful.”

This year, the 38th Annual Smiles Tag Days is Sept. 13-15 in various locations throughout Chicago and the suburbs. Little City is recruiting hundreds of corporate and individual volunteers to collect donations at intersections and storefronts.

Volunteers are needed to work shifts of at least two hours between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

“I love tagging in groups where we can all participate and get together afterward to share stories of people’s generosity,” said David Rose, Little City board member and event chairman.

“It’s a really rewarding day and just makes you feel good when others help support individuals with disabilities.”

Funds raised will allow Little City to continue engaging and supporting individuals, families and communities to ensure that individuals with disabilities can realize their unique potential to live safely, learn continuously, explore creatively and work productively throughout their lifetime.
