Team effort lifts Lakes
Lakes’ girls volleyball team received contributions from nearly every player on its roster in a 25-13, 25-12 win over Round Lake on Thursday night.
Shannon Grant (7-of-8 hitting) and Sarah Horner (6-6 hitting) each slammed 5 kills, and Stephanie Reed set 44 of 46 with 22 assists, as the Eagles remained undefeated at 5-0 while improving to 2-0 in the North Suburban Prairie Division.
Other Eagles who made an impact included Kim Olson (4 kills), Abbey Buehler (3 kills, 3 aces), Emily Aigner (2 kills, 8 digs), Alex Silvola (3 kills, 7 digs), Abbi Mehnert (2 kills), Shelby Trkla (2 kills, 1 ace), Haley Halberg (5 digs, 3 aces), Aly Bathery (3 digs, ace) and Krystal Hawks (1-2 hitting).
Grayslake Central d. Woodstock: Alexandria Dahlstrom delivered 8 kills and 3 aces for the Rams in their 25-4, 25-21 win.
Grayslake Central (6-3, 2-0 Fox Valley Fox) got 3 kills apiece from Gabi Casper, Anna Basten and Lexi Beckman. Hannah Thomas set 38 of 38 with 14 assists and also served 3 aces. Beckman added 3 blocks.
“We played well tonight and had everyone step up their game,” coach Jason Janczak said. “It was a total team effort.”
Johnsburg d. Grayslake North: Joanna Guhl had 5 kills on 10-of-10 hitting for the Knights, who fell 25-19, 25-18 in their Fox Valley Fox opener.
Melanie Aikin added 4 kills for Grayslake North (2-6), and Lisa Lowry dished out 13 assists and delivered 5 aces.
Larkin d. Vernon Hills: Shannon Nugent’s 6 kills on 20-of-20 hitting and 2 blocks weren’t enough for the Cougars in their 25-19, 25-16 nonconference loss.
Sophomore Kasey Firnbach hit 5 of 5 with 3 kills for Vernon Hills (4-6).
