Funeral set for man killed with girlfriend while camping
CARMI, Ill. — Funeral arrangements are set for a former Iraq War veteran who authorities say was killed with his girlfriend while they were on a camping and fishing trip in southern Illinois.
Prosecutors in White County have charged 36-year-old Danny Coston of Carmi with first-degree murder, aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated battery with a firearm and concealing a homicide.
Sheriff Doug Maier says the victims had been camping and fishing along the Little Wabash River when they were reported missing Aug. 26 after they didn’t return home. Searchers found Jessica Evans’ body the next day, and Jacob Wheeler’s body was found early Saturday.
Wheeler’s funeral was to be held Wednesday at First Christian Church in Carmi.
Coston remains jailed on $3 million. It’s not immediately clear if he has an attorney.
