Round Lake Beach Police hope a new high-performance vehicle will help them score some public relations points with the community.
The new police cruiser — a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS — will be unveiled during a special ceremony at Ray Chevrolet on Route 12 in Fox Lake on Friday, Sept. 14.
The slicked-out vehicle was donated by the dealership and will be used to help “bridge the gap between the police and the public,” said Round Lake Beach Police Ofc. Gary Lunn.
“Anytime we can get a specialty vehicle like this, it really brings the community together,” Lunn said. “It really is a great public relations tool for parades and other community events.”
The car is part of a community outreach program developed by the Round Lake Beach Police Department and supported by Ray Chevrolet, he said.
This is the fourth vehicle the Fox Lake dealership has helped secure for Round Lake Beach Police. The others were a Chevy Monte Carlo SS, an Chevrolet Impala SS and a Chevy TrailBlazer, Lunn said.
“But, this time, they really upped the wow factor,” he said. “A Camaro like this gets some good attention.”
Lunn said the Volo Auto Museum will be on hand for the official unveiling at 11 a.m. The auto museum will bring in “Barricade” and “Bumblebee,” two of the vehicles it has on hand from the movie “Transformers”.
“We are real excited to have the car (Camaro),” Lunn said. “It will be a great event.”Copyright © 2014 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
