Wheeling to level home damaged by 2011 fire

Wheeling village board members hired a contractor Tuesday to tear down the remains of a one-story house at 115 W. Manchester Road that was destroyed by a January 2011 fire.

The work will cost $19,780 and will take approximately six weeks, according to a contract approved by village trustees.

Although the house is not located on village property, the village has to tear it down according to a court order, said Mark Janeck, the village’s director of community development. The house is seen as a safety hazard and is property of a bank, Janeck said.
