Postcard from Charlotte: Big week for Illinois

Hi, everybody.

The Democratic National Convention starts in Charlotte, N.C, today, but it’s already clear it’ll be a big week for Illinois.

Delegates are all here, on hand to nominate a Democrat from their home state as president for a second term.

That’s not where the Illinois connection ends, though, with key speaking roles for the state’s three other highest-profile Democrats: Gov. Pat Quinn, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin.

And that’s not to mention Tammy Duckworth of Hoffman Estates, locked in a widely watched race for Congress.

Both Duckworth and Quinn are scheduled to speak today. Should be an interesting one for both national and local politics.

Best, Mike Riopell
