Chicago man gets life sentence for killing 3
A Chicago man must spend the rest of his life in prison after being found guilty of murder in a 2009 crime spree that left his wife and former girlfriend dead and eventually killed his father.
James Amison wept Wednesday as he apologized to the victims’ relatives; he told his children that he’s the “perfect example of what not to be.”
After Amison finished, Cook County Circuit Judge James Linn sentenced him to five life sentences for murder, home invasion and armed robbery charges.
Amison was accused of shooting his father, James Johnson, and his former girlfriend, Stephanie Reed. Authorities say he strangled his ex-wife, Tashika Smith. His father died about a year after the attack.
Prosecutors say Amison was convinced his ex-wife was having an affair with his father.
