Antioch blanks Grayslake Central

JR Lonergan and Erik Van Treeck each had a goal, as Antioch’s boys soccer team shut out visiting Grayslake Central 2-0 in nonconference action Wednesday.

Sequoits keeper Tommy Tritschler had the shutout. Iven Hernandez and Bobby Miranda had assists for Antioch (2-1), which scored a goal in each half.

Vernon Hills 4, Grayslake North 3: Evan Borden scored a pair of second-half goals, and the Cougars remained undefeated by overcoming a 2-1 halftime deficit to edge the visiting Knights in a nonconference match.

Matthew Tabrizi had a goal and an assist after halftime for Vernon Hills, which improved to 5-0-1. Tony Orozco scored in the opening 40 minutes for the Cougars off an assist from Jeremy Cohen. David White assisted on Borden’s second tally.

Grant 1, Harvard 0: On Tuesday night, Antonio Gonzalez, Grant’s sixth shooter, netted a sudden-death penalty kick, and keeper Keegan Cray stopped a shot during penalty kicks, as the Bulldogs opened their own tournament by winning in dramatic fashion.

Cray made 5 saves, in total.

It was the first win for Grant (1-3) and new head coach Bryan Mark, whose Bulldogs resume their tourney Saturday. They will play Grayslake North at 9 a.m. and Cary-Grove at 3 p.m.
