They say truth is stranger than fiction. One only has to watch the news or skim through Time Magazine, National Geographic or People to know the adage is sound. For those who love to delve into our world’s twisted, amazing, phenomenal and astonishing truths, the library’s new book club may be just the ticket.
Second Floor Reads: Nonfiction Book Group is the Schaumburg Township District Library’s only book group devoted to nonfiction. Come for tales of adventure and travel, harrowing accounts of crime and murder, or the mysteries of the human psyche. Whatever your tastes, we’ve got you covered. A different nonfiction title is featured each month and discussed at two different dates and times to accommodate our readers’ schedules. The best part is … you only register for the books that spark your interest.
For the remainder of 2012, nonfiction aficionados can join in discussions of the following titles:
Sept. 20 and 26: “The Boys’ Crusade: The American Infantry in Northwestern Europe, 1944-1945.”
Oct 18 and 24: “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.” Nov. 15 and 28: “The Seasons of Henry’s Farm: A Year of Food and Life on a Sustainable Farm”
The meetings take place in the Rasmussen North Room (second floor) on the third Thursday afternoon and fourth Wednesday evening of each month.
To register for these free discussions, simply visit the Information/Magazines Desk on the second floor. Loan copies of the book are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
