Algonquin resident injured in minor garage fire

An Algonquin resident was injured while attempting to put out a fire inside an attached garage Monday night.

A resident of the home on the 1900 block of Cloverdale Lane called 911 at 6:05 p.m. after discovering a fire in the garage, according to the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District.

Firefighters arrived four minutes after the call and found a small fire in the corner of the garage, which a resident and neighbors were dousing with a garden hose.

Firefighters put out the remainder of the fire. They estimated the damage at $5,000.

One resident injured while trying to extinguish the fire and was taken to Sherman Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday night.
