Veterans Art Museum to close next month, move

The National Veterans Art Museum in Chicago will hold a closing ceremony Sept. 22 to celebrate 16 years in Chicago's South Loop. The event will mark the transition to its new location in Chicago's Portage Park neighborhood, or Six Corners.

Admission is free during the day of the ceremony at the current location. Light refreshments will be offered from 1 to 5 p.m.

Artists and curators Aaron Hughes and Erica Slone will join veteran-artists who have exhibited at the museum during the past three decades. Curators will speak at 2 p.m.

The museum will open its new facility on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. A new exhibition and reception will be from 1 to 5 p.m. that day.
