Sensitivity needed on other stories

I, too, would like to thank the Daily Herald for refusing to exploit the senseless killings in Aurora, Colo. by limiting its coverage. As a matter of fact, I’d appreciate it if you would also extend this sensitivity to content like your recent column “Bartlett ‘Bad Girl’ now among suburban reality stars.”

Coverage of those who, like Ms. Dye, are able to attain a measure of notoriety because of “ditziness,” “hair pulling” fights and drunkenness, and whose ambitions consist of creating a “new vodka drink” and “to party” infers endorsement and encouragement of such behavior.

Pandering to these stories has far more long-lasting ill effects than would reporting a rare mass shooting with a sense of grief and sadness.
