Although the Kane County Cougars organization has refused to comment, a report published Tuesday has the Chicago Cubs Class A minor league affiliate headed to Kane County. A Kansas City Royals minor league director said if negations had taken place, it would be against Major League Policy. Ex-husband had order of protection against Elgin woman

A 34-year-old Elgin woman facing murder charges for allegedly hitting her boyfriend in the head with a frying pan, had an order of protection against her by her ex-husband in 2008, according to court records. Nora L. Peterson is being held on $750,000 bail. Peterson struck Michael Mielczarek in the head with the pan Saturday afternoon, causing him to fall and hit his head and later die. Full story.

Wheaton murder victim's friend was with her minutes before shooting

Sarah Entrzeroth was with Megan Boken five minutes before she was shot and killed in St. Louis Saturday afternoon, and says the two were laughing and looking forward to becoming roommates. “This is crazy,” Entzeroth said on Tuesday. “It's still not real.” Boken had planned to move to St. Louis and had job interviews that weekend. There is now a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of her killer. Full story.

Preckwinkle backtracks on comments against Reagan on war on drugs

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle says she regrets making a comment yesterday that former President Ronald Reagan deserves “a special place in hell” for politicizing and criminalizing drug addiction. Preckwinkle made the statement at a conference at the University of Illinois' Institute of Government and Public Affairs in Urbana Tuesday. Full story.

Cops: Man approached girl in Algonquin neighborhood

Algonquin police are asking parents to speak with their children about safety after a man approached a girl and asked her if she wanted a ride home Tuesday afternoon. Police said a man in a vehicle approached the child at the intersection of Barrett and Broadsmore drives about 3:45 p.m. Full story.

Evidence that Peterson attempted to hire hitman OK'd by judge

Evidence that Drew Peterson sought to hire a hit man to kill his third wife was OK'd by the judge in the high profile murder trial yesterday. The inclusion of the evidence is considered a legal victory for prosecutors. During the trial yesterday, a pathologist testified that a 2-inch gash on the back of Kathleen Savio's head could not have caused her to pass out. Full story.

Traffic

Construction continues on IL Route 25 in St. Charles. Route 25, south of Fox Glen Drive, will be closed to through traffic while construction goes on. Access to residences, businesses and side streets on IL-25 north and south of culvert still will be maintained. Motorists should anticipate delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. You can say Kevin Youkilis, Dewayne Wise and Francisco Liriano all settled scores with the Yankees on last night at U.S. Cellular Field. None of the White Sox' trio broke baseball's long-standing code and trashed talked their opponent. Rather, Youkilis, Wise and Liriano let their play do the talking, and it is safe to say the Yankees' ears were burning after a 7-3 loss. Scot Gregor reports.

Cubs drop another

When left-hander Chris Rusin took the mound Tuesday night, he became the 11th different pitcher to start a game for the Cubs this year. Rusin acquitted himself well, working 5 innings of 1-hit, 1-run ball in taking the loss, but still took the loss when the Cubs dropped the game 5-2 against the Brewers. Full story.
