Trial continues for man accused of killing family

Witnesses testifying at the trial of an Oswego accused of killing his wife and three children say that in the moments after the slayings he was preoccupied by damage to his clothing.

Christopher Vaughn is charged with first-degree murder. Authorities allege he shot and killed his family as they sat buckled into their SUV in June 2007.

Prosecutors say he then shot himself in the wrist and leg in an attempt to make it look like his wife carried out the slayings before killing herself.

Will County Sheriff’s Deputy Corey Burket testified Wednesday that during questioning Vaughn never asked if his children were safe.

Instead, Burket said, he complained firefighters had ruined his coat.

A paramedic testified that Vaughn was adamant he not damage his cowboy boots.
