Romney’s candor is refreshing

This is in response to Eugene Robinson’s column of Aug 2. Eugene, as an impartial journalist I thought that you would see how refreshing it is to finally have a politician speak with candor.

Mitt Romney does know a thing or two about preparing for the Olympics and he told London what he thought. You, on the other hand, said that he is “not a genius at reading the mood of the people.” Don’t we want a president that calls it as he sees it and not one that calls it as he thinks his audience sees it?

Mitt Romney was correct about the cultural difference between Israelis and the Arabs of Judea and Samaria. Those Arabs do not recognize it as a sovereign Jewish and democratic state. They send women and children to Israel as suicide bombers. They would rather destroy Israel than build their own institutions.

There is a pattern of corruption among their leadership. (How did Yasser Arafat get so wealthy?) The so-called occupation is a defensive measure designed to save human lives, and it is working. If it is not culture then why is Israel so prosperous and Judea and Samaria and Gaza not prosperous? The Arab leadership needs to change the culture. The land is so beautiful there. It is a shame what the Arab leadership is doing to their people. They could be very prosperous; it has nothing to do with the Israelis.

Eugene, you need to look past the politics and start being a journalist. You wrote that you base your opinions on what you observe. You need to wipe your glasses clean. I think it refreshing to have a leader who will speak with truth and candor.
