Why Boy Scouts right to prohibit gays

While I appreciate the heart of James Abbott as expressed in his letter about gays being excluded from the Boy Scouts of America, according to Scripture he is operating under some misinformation. How? There is absolutely no empirical evidence that supports transitioning the theory of being genetically born gay into fact; this is speculative human reasoning apart from God.

According to our Creator, homosexuality is sin. This sin is listed within an additional grouping of comparable sins Christians are also not to practice, such as murder, strife, gossip and deceit. This passage begins with His warning, “The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.” (Romans 1:18). Why? Because “they exchanged the truth of God for a lie” (Romans 1:25a). “For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions (homosexuality)” (Romans 1:26a) and “a depraved mind to do those things (sins) which are not proper” (Romans 1:28b).

Just in case we missed this part, God specifies other sinful practices that our culture is eagerly embracing. They include fornication (all types of sex outside of marriage), adultery, idolatry, stealing, drunkenness, cowardliness, unbelief, sorcery and a host of other offenses (1 Corinthians 6:9-11; Galatians 5:16-21; Revelation 21:8). These passages also include a warning: Those “who practice these things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

God’s loving warning — before it is too late — is candidly communicated and we have the liberty to either believe and obey Him or not believe and disobey. Each choice has eternal, contrasting consequences. Sadly, too many Christians are afraid to be a messenger of God’s warning because their fear of being labeled intolerant or a hate monger outweighs their fear of God, which is “the beginning of Wisdom.” In my opinion, BSA chose wisely.
