Sky scouting report

New York Liberty (7-13) at Chicago Sky (8-11)

When: 7 p.m., Allstate Arena Tuesday

TV: Comcast CN100

Last time: Saturday, the visiting Liberty lost to the Connecticut Sun 85-74; Sunday, the visiting Sky lost to the Washington Mystics 75-71.

Skinny: The Sky missed on a golden opportunity Sunday against the Washington Mystics, the last-place team in the Eastern Conference. A similar opportunity awaits in the Liberty, which sits just above the Mystics in fifth place in the East. Not only is a win in this game important to the Sky’s hopes for a playoff berth next month, it also would help with morale. The Sky has been in a huge slump lately, having lost 10 of its last 11 games, including the last six. The Liberty, which has lost four of its last five, trails the Sky for fourth place in the East by just 1½ games. The top four teams in both the East and the West make the playoffs. … Chicago native Cappie Pondexter leads the Liberty and is third in the WNBA in scoring at 20.1 points per game. Just ahead of Pondexter is Sky guard Epiphanny Prince, who ranks second in scoring at 21.4 points. Prince, who was out for nine weeks with a broken foot, has looked solid in her two games back. … This is a tough stretch for the Sky. After the game, it’s off to Atlanta for the third back-to-back of the season. It’s one of four games for the Sky this week.

Next: Sky at Atlanta Dream, 6 p.m. Wednesday
