Chicago to expand Shakespeare in the Park program

Can’t get enough of the Bard of Avon? Next summer, Chicago will offer more chances than ever for the public to watch a performance of Shakespeare’s plays.

Officials say this summer’s inaugural Shakespeare in the Parks program was so successful that it will be expanded next year.

This year’s program featured free performances of “The Taming of the Shrew” by Chicago Shakespeare Theater at 10 parks throughout the city. More than 10,000 people saw the 17 outdoor plays.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the goal is to increase the number of parks and the number of communities with exposure to live, professional theater.

Details on next summer’s program will be announced at a later date.
