Westmont man charged with stabbing Chicago security guard

A Westmont man is being held by Chicago police on charges he stabbed a security guard, triedto stab a police sergeant, and caused an accident in downtown Chicago Saturday.

Nomad Khan, 20, of Westmont, is being charged with four counts of attempted murder after the Saturday morning stabbing and the crash in the Loop, Chicago Police Spokesman Mike Sullivan said.

Khan, of the 1000 block of Beninford Lane, remains hospitalized in fair condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital after being shot in the hip, Sullivan said.

The security guard was also treated for two stab wounds and released from Northwestern, Sullivan said.

Sullivan said Khan drove his Nissan Maxima at a high-rate of speed into the rear of a vehicle preparing to turn at Monroe and LaSalle streets Saturday night.

The force of the crash sent both vehicles through the intersection and into a light pole, authorities said.

The security guard was passing by, saw the crash, and stopped to try and help, Sullivan said. However, Khan attacked the security guard with a knife, stabbing the guard twice, Sullivan said.

Khan then charged a police sergeant who had arrived on the scene, but the officer shot Khan in the hip, stopping his advance and forcing him to drop the knife, Sullivan said.

Khan was taken into custody, and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, Sullivan said.
